Sales Funnel — plain English explanation

The journey a stranger takes to become a paying client — and the system that guides them through it.

    What it is

A sales funnel describes the stages a potential client goes through from first becoming aware of your business to making a purchase. The term "funnel" reflects the reality that many people enter at the top — seeing an ad, visiting your website, or hearing about you from a friend — but fewer progress to each subsequent stage and fewer still become paying clients. The stages typically are: Awareness (they know you exist), Interest (they enquire or engage), Consideration (they compare you to alternatives), Intent (they are ready to buy), and Conversion (they pay). A sales funnel is both a description of this journey and the set of tools and messages designed to move people from one stage to the next.

Why it matters for small businesses

For a small business, understanding your funnel reveals where clients are getting lost. If 50 people visit your website every week but only 2 fill in the contact form, the problem is at the Awareness to Interest transition — your website is not compelling enough. If 20 people enquire but only 3 book, the problem is at Interest to Conversion — your follow-up process or pricing is creating friction. Without a funnel view, these problems are invisible. With one, they are fixable.

    How Genju implements it

Genju's Funnels module generates complete conversion-optimised landing pages with a lead capture form, thank-you page, email sequence, and CRM integration. When someone submits the funnel form, they are automatically added to the CRM, placed in the pipeline, sent a confirmation WhatsApp, and enrolled in a follow-up email sequence — all within seconds of submission.

    In practice

A personal trainer creates a funnel in Genju for a "Free Fitness Assessment" offer. The landing page captures name and phone. 34% of visitors fill in the form. Each lead gets an immediate WhatsApp confirmation and a 3-email sequence over 5 days. 8 out of 10 who fill in the form book the free assessment. The funnel runs 24/7 without the trainer doing anything after initial setup.
